The newly released 40GB PS3 comes in at a more affordable price of £299. Sony have managed to get the price down by installing a 40GB hard drive as opposed to 60GB, there is also no backward compatibility with older PSone and PS2 titles, two 2.0 USB ports rather than four and no multi memory card port, however, if required these features can be enhanced or provided through the addition of readily available aftermarket accessories.

The price of the PS3 40GB makes it a very attractive entry point to the world of High Definition gaming and movies. By Christmas there will be around 65 titles available spread across all genres. The price is of the new PS3 40GB is what made me decide to purchase. At £299 you are getting an unbelievable piece of kit. Where else can you get a device that not only plays games but also has a Blu-ray player for under £300? To top this, the PS3 allows you to have as many user accounts as you like for FREE online play and FREE downloadable demos. All in all I am very pleased with my purchase. ~M Webb

£299 for the 40gb PS3 represents absolutely amazing value for money. OK, so you lose out on 20GB of memory, a couple of USB ports and backward compatibility with PS2 and PSone games, but to be honest, I didn’t buy my new state of the art PS3 to play old generation playstation titles. What Sony have kept with this system though is superb, the Blu-ray player is astonishing, and the online content is excellent, I would also like to point out that the online gaming is completely free. This really is the best £299 I have ever spent, well done Sony! ~Mark S
